Welcome

In 2018 the Teaching and Learning Center launched the initial Teach@CUNY Summer Institute for rising second-year CUNY Graduate Center students. Now in its sixth year — and meeting in person for the first time since 2019 — the Institute prepares new college instructors not only for their upcoming teaching responsibilities, but for a lifetime as engaged, committed educators. Each class of Graduate Teaching Fellows will work with approximately 50,000 CUNY undergraduates over a three-year span and, overall, Graduate Center students teach approximately 150,000 CUNY undergraduates every year. The Institute welcomes these scholars into a community of faculty committed to CUNY’s mission to serve the whole people of New York.

This year from May 30th to June 2nd, dozens of first-time Graduate Teaching Fellows and adjuncts will come together at the Graduate Center for the sixth Teach@CUNY Summer Institute, and our first Institute in person since 2019. These students come from 22 doctoral programs at the Graduate Center, and this fall they will each begin teaching appointments on eight campuses: Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, John Jay College, Lehman College, Medgar Evers College, and Queens College.

The Institute has been designed by the staff of the Teaching and Learning Center, and will introduce and orient attendees to teaching undergraduates in the CUNY context.

The TLC is grateful to The Charina Foundation, The CUNY Central Office of Student Affairs, The Graduate Center Office of Student Affairs, The Graduate Center Provost’s Office, The Graduate Center Office of Institutional Advancement, and to the Center for the Advanced Study in Education for their collaboration on an evaluation of the Institute.
